United We Stand; Divided...

A recent study on the American view of Denominationalism concluded that by its very nature, it (Denominationalism) is perhaps the "moral failure of modern Christianity". At first glance, those words are offensive. But after looking at Jesus' words in John 17, praying for "oneness" and "unity", those words may be worth reading again.

Who is "the Church"? Is it important to connect with other organizations or denominations? If so, how? Would Jesus commend us or chastise us? Is He pleased or grieved? What are your thoughts?

  1. Connect, Connect, Connect. I agree we should lay aside petty differences and come together to invade the gates of hell rather than compete as denominations.

  2. I do think it's important to partner with other fellowship (denominational) groups. By the way, Pentecostal's aren't the only ones going to Heaven. (Though some would think)

I have some good Pastor friends who are Baptist, Nazarene and Christian. Although we see things differently, our goal is KINGDOM BUILDING.

We must unite for the KINGDOM. At the same time, we will all have our opinion and flavor.

I am very transparent when it comes to my distinction as being a Pentecostal believer. However, I don't bust people over the head with it. I live it and am tempered by Galatians 5:22-23 so that my fruit makes my gift palatable.

I want to be salt & light. If I'm salty enough - there will spring forth a desire in those around me to partake in the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Working with other denominational groups can be a challenge. But it's one that we should be willing to do with a loving spirit. If I can connect with other Pastors in my city to accomplish KINGDOM building - then WOW - I'm doing what He called me to do in the first place.

Navagating through denominational barriers can be delicate, but it is possible if you're full of LOVE.

    Our common denominator is JESUS.

  3. I have been a part and have served on staff in both non-denominational and of course now PCG. There are major advantages and dis-advantages if you will with both. If we could take the good of both and toss out the bad of the same we would have what we all want and need....right?

The truth is we do not have all the answers and most of all our differences are not requirements to be saved!

Just as we say we need to reach out in love to other denominations, they are saying the same things about connecting with us.

We sang a song years ago "NO ONE OF US HAS GOT IT ALL TOGETHER BUT ALL OF US TOGETHER GOT IT ALL"
